Itinerary:
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Zagora Dunes
Departing from Marrakech at 8:00 a.m, we will cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’ Tichka pass towards Ait Benhaddou village, the fortified ksar with its beautiful kasbahs. Ait Benhaddou has served as a natural backdrop for many movie producers since the 1960s. On arrival in Ait Benhaddou village, we will walk to the top of the hill which dominates the whole village.
After lunch, we will head to Ouarzazate city, then we will travel to the south and cross the second pass, Tizi N’ Tnifift, at 1,710 m, and Ait Saoun village, the former route of caravans for Sahara traders coming from “Timbuktu.” We will reach the first administrative center called “Agdez Village,” which marks the source of Draa Valley, with its 6 successive palm groves. We will continue through the lunar landscapes and pre-Sahara routes until you reach Zagora, a small town and the native region of the Saadian dynasty (Saadian tombs are in Marrakech), who used to rule Morocco in the XVII century.
In the evening, we will embark on a camel trek, arriving at your camp for the beautiful sunset. This is situated in an oasis. Enjoy dinner prepared by nomads and overnight in the tents.
Day 2: Zagora – Marrakech
After a traditional Berber breakfast, just prior to sunrise, we will depart on a camel ride to explore the area further as we head back to Zagora. When we reach Zagora, we will begin our journey through the Draa Valley and over the Atlas Mountains. The journey back to Marrakech offers plenty of stops for photos and lunch towards Marrakesh.
