Tour Overview

Agafay & Imlil valley excursion is to discover the high valleys and hilltop villages of the Toubkal massif. This tour includes visiting Tahnaout, Asni, Imlil, Moulay Brahim, Desert Agafay and Lac Lalla Takerkoust

Itinerary:

To reach Imlil at the foot of Toubkal, we cross the superb landscapes of the High Atlas between villages on the hillside and shepherds grazing their flocks on the steep slopes of Jebel Toubkal. Past Asni, the road continues along a valley between the mountains of the Toubkal massif to arrive in Imlil where we will have lunch.

After lunch we will drive to Moulay Brahim. Plateaus and cliffs alternate with deep gorges. Further down, the Kik plateau seems to hollow out the Atlas and the Agafay desert lets us think of southern Morocco

The Kik Plateau is dominated by the High Atlas chain whose peaks reach over 4000 meters.

Throughout the year, the Kik plateau changes with the seasons: Brown when farmers plough the land with their mules. Launched in winter with the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas. Green in spring, when the bright green barley fields are dotted with poppies. And finally the yellow in summer which announces the harvests.

To end our excursion in the High Atlas, we will join Marrakech by the tracks of the Agafay desert, passing by Lake Lalla Takerkoust.

The Agafay Desert is little known to tourists. This vast arid region with white undulations that one could take for sand dunes but which are in fact a succession of hills with a whitish colour reminiscent of our Ergs in southern Morocco.
